Further supervision education for graduates of the CST Certificate in Supervision


This course is currently running. The next Diploma training will run from September 2012 to March 2014.

Participants who have successfully completed the CST Certificate in Supervision are eligible to undertake this Diploma programme.

This course is designed to encourage informed and mature reflective supervision practice through the training sessions and regular group supervision of supervision. Self and peer assessment, and individual goal setting, alongside tutor guidance, are key aspects of the programme.

  Diploma in Supervision
 
An Adlerian/Integrative Approach
  
The programme is arranged in 4 one-day modules and 2 two-day modules held on a monthly basis.   Each module involves exploring further supervision issues, as well as a 3-hour Supervision of Supervision group with a maximum of 4 participants working with one tutor/supervisor. 

Presentation of theory, live demonstration and personal exploration are also core to the education method. There is an expectation that participants will have a minimum of one supervisee at the outset of the training with a minimum of 2 supervisees by the third module.

Course Content
Further key skills in supervision; Integrating Adlerian concepts in supervision; Skills and structure in supervision; Issues of diversity and difference; The supervisory context and supervising trainees; Encouragement; Developmental maps; Feedback and assessment skills; Power and authority issues; Creative approaches; Ethical and legal issues; Mental health assessment and complex cases in supervision; Organisational issues and supervision; Supervision of Supervision group; Research and supervision.

Assessment and Certification
Alongside the core assessment criteria, participants are also encouraged to set their own learning objectives and goals, monitor their own self-development and contribute to their perrs' development through structured feedback.
 

Each participant will create a portfolio consisting of:

1) Personal Learning Contract

2) Commentaries for each of the six supervision of supervision groups

3) Commentaries on each specialist workshop

4) A presentation to the other members of the group

5) A final learning statement

6) A log of a minimum of 20 hours supervision experience



The course is accredited by the
Adlerian Society UK & Institute for Individual Psychology (ASIIP). To gain the Diploma in Supervision, participants need to meet all criteria for the final assessment. This includes submitting written commentaries to demonstrate reflective supervisory practice, and commentaries of learning from the training days, a general learning statement, and completion of a minimum of 20 hours of supervised supervision with individuals or groups. 


Current Course Tutors

Penny Henderson is an accredited counsellor, supervisor and Fellow of BACP. She has had a special interest in supervising counsellors in primary care. She is author of a number of articles on supervision, and of one book of reflections on supervision practice, and editor of another about supervisor training.

Anthea Millar is a BACP accredited counsellor, working in independent practice. She was coordinator and senior tutor on the Adlerian counselling training in Cambridge for many years, and supervises both trainees and experienced practitioners. She is regularly invited to train counsellors elsewhere in the UK and abroad.

Visiting Tutors

Specialists renowned in the field of supervision are invited to facilitate one-day workshops as part of the Diploma training.

Venue: Thriplow Village Hall, Middle St, Thriplow, Cambs SG8 7RD

Timings: 9.30am to 5.00pm, six Saturdays and two Sundays between September and March.

Current fee: £950 (this includes assessment). For certification participants need to be members of the Adlerian Society UK (membership fee payable to them is currently £35 per year). 

Entry requirements for 2013-14: Applicants will need to have successfully completed the CST Certificate in Supervision (to be held Sep 2012 to March 2013). Participants will have at least one supervisee at the start of the course.
